It's God's StoreIt is so obvious to all of us who work in the store that God is in control and is doing amazing things through everyday miracles at Angels' Attic. This is where we'd like to share some of the incredible things that God has done.
One day we noticed that a woman was standing outside of our store pacing back and forth. Since we're fairly used to people visiting Angels' Attic for spiritual guidance as well as the shopping experience, we approached her to see if we could help in any way. She said she had an unusual request -- she had been searching all over town for a red slip. Her mother had just passed away and had always wanted to be buried in a red slip. A red slip is not exactly the most common item in any store. Leanne was aware of every single item of clothing on a particular rack, and knew that we didn't have a red slip. But she told the woman to go back to a certain area and look through the merchandise just to see if something might work. When the lady returned, she had found exactly what she was looking for -- a red slip combined with a little jacket to match. Apparently, the red slip was on a hanger and was protruding from the clothes rack separate from all the other garments. When we tell people of this story, one of the things that really hits people is that the Creator of the universe cares about such things as a red slip, and He made sure to get this woman to our store and made sure that the exact appropriate item was waiting for her (not just waiting, but practically shoved in her face!).
When we first opened, an article ran in the paper about the store and we were absolutely packed that Saturday. A lady came in who ran the Eastside Ministries Children's Home. Her school had been notified one week prior to school starting that each child had to have school uniforms in order to attend class. These children had no uniforms at all. Pat told her to go back into the Children's section and see what she can find. She came back with 3-4 little shirts in her hand. Pat knew that the section had been loaded with clothes. Pat said "is that all you could find?" The woman said "you have so much nice stuff back there -- you can certainly sell that -- I wouldn't feel right about taking it". Pat immediately said "I want you to go back there and take half of what we've got". The ladies working in the store got big black garbage bags and loaded her up. Pat stayed late that night in order to clean up and close the store. She was the last one out and the first one in the next morning. As she unlocked the door the next morning, she made a bee-line for the back room, and as she went to turn on the lights, she literally tripped over 2 huge (55-gallon) garbage bags on the floor. She actually fell on the floor because they were so large and in the way. The garbage bags were filled with BRAND NEW SCHOOL UNIFORMS with the TAGS ON! They were the standard khaki, blue and white version. Pat immediately called the woman who ran the school and said "You need to come back because the Lord has left you two packages here!".
The Check for Cambodia
In August '08, a missionary dropped by our store (a friend had told him about our store and about our trip to Cambodia). Pat offered to help him with clothing for the Cambodian children. As the missionary was leaving, he mentioned that he would be working with Pastor Jesse McCaul in Cambodia. Pat remembered that a lady had given Angels’ Attic a check for $175 to be used toward something in Cambodia, and felt led to give him the money. He stood there in absolute shock, and said he had been praying for weeks for funds (he needed between $150 and $170 to complete a planned project). We met Pastor Jesse McCaul's church (New Life Fellowship) while on our Cambodian trip in Phnom Penh. Pastor Jesse attended many of the outreach efforts during our Cambodia trip with Joyce Meyer. We even visited one of his church services. Pat knew exactly where the money was going all the way to the other side of the world! Small world -- no way. Big God -- absolutely!
